Recess/Snack

  • Please be sure and send a snack with your child to school (examples: juice box, granola bars, fruit, yogurt, cheese, fruit cups) along with a cold pack. Most lunches are placed in bins outside.
  • Water hydro flasks are also encouraged. We have 2 filtered water filling stations on campus to fill water bottles.
  • During snack/lunch recess, it is school policy that students do not share food due to food allergies that students may have. There is a “peanut free zone” assigned table for students with such allergies.
  • Students sit at tables for a minimum of 10 minutes and will be dismissed by Student Coaches, by table, when they are done and the area is clean. This is to ensure students are eating their snack.
  • If your child has an elective make sure and pack enough food or you may sign up for lunch online.

Breakfast (Before School)

  • We are now offering a healthy grab and go breakfast for our students before school starts.
  • This breakfast option is free to our students.

Lunch (After School)

  • Lunch will no longer be "grab and go." It must be eaten at school and cannot be taken home.
  • Please make sure and sign up weekly to ensure there are enough lunches. Sign ups will be sent out weekly through a ParentSquare post.

Homework

Students will be required to read 20 minutes at home each day and fill out a reading log (provided in the homework folder each week; this reading log will also be updated weekly with progress towards the AR trimester reading goal). Each student will have a book bag with two class books and occasionally sight words lists and small reading group books to practice. These homework folders will be turned in each week on Fridays.

This Week

Just what are we doing in First Grade?

Spelling Words

nest, cost, list, last, fast, crust, first, chest, toast, vest

This Week's Book

various books learning about the Earth, nature, and citizenship

Reading/Writing

As we look at ways we can protect and preserve the beauty of our world (Earth Day is Monday, April 22!), we will be writing about the many ways we can help the Earth. First, we will organize our thoughts using a flow map with "tell-me-more" sentences; then, we will take the flow map to writing. Especially as our community service projects are coming due, this is a great way to be thinking about how to live our lives in the service of others.

COMMUNITY SERVICE PROJECTS DUE SOON! Please head to the Community Service section to be sure you are on track. We are excited to see all you have going on.

Please keep in mind that there are so many opportunities to be in service to others. As you complete community service, please remember to snap some pictures and write down what you are doing. These hours can all go towards your Community Service Project due in May. Be sure to check out the Community Service information section below. Community Service

ILCS Community Service Project

GOOD NEWS! This year our first grade students will get to complete 6-8 community service hours to Rise to Servant Leadership (the last letter in our leadership acronym ROAR). The past few years have halted so many service opportunities (while inspiring others); we are thrilled we get to actively challenge ourselves to bless others again. We know that many of you have service to others built into your family’s schedule; you may have already completed several community service hours without even realizing it. For others, this will be an incredible opportunity to push yourselves out of your comfort zone. You have the next 8 months to carve out the 6-8 hours, due in early May. These can be completed all at once in one big project or spread apart into multiple smaller projects. Thank you for doing the best you can. Once the kids complete their hours, they will need to make a presentation that they will present to the class. The presentation should tell us about their community service project(s) and all about their experience. Pictures and drawings with labels and descriptions are GREAT! We look forward to seeing how our students give back!

Community Service Expectations

  • 6-8 hours for the year
  • 3-5 minute presentation
  • Due May 6 - May 10

Community Service Project Ideas

Operation Christmas Child, Pajama Project, Relay for Life, Blankets for Retirement Homes, Cards for Soldiers, Fireman, Nurses, and Policeman, Reading with the Elderly, Canned Food Drive

Presentation Ideas

Poster Boards, PowerPoint, Book/Journal, iMovie, Scrapbook

Feel free to use any other ideas you may come up with to complete the project. Below you will find a printable version of all of this information.

Please reach out if you have any questions.

Thank you!

The First Grade Team

Meet the teachers who spend the day with your kiddos!

Mandy Timboe

Mandy Timboe

Mandy Timboe has taught in the early primary grades for 20 years, the last 14 at ILCS. Originally from right here in Yucaipa, she graduated from Whitworth University.

She likes dirt bikes, boating, traveling, and shopping. Her favorite colors are pink, black, teal, and mint. She is pretty sure that she could live on iced tea alone!

Mrs. Timboe lives in Yucaipa with her husband, Jimmy, and their three children - Cole (15), Aubrey (14), and Wyatt (13). She is looking forward to another great year!

You can e-mail Mrs. Timboe at [email protected] or contact her through ParentSquare.

Jennifer Pryor

Jennifer Pryor

So excited to be one of the teachers here from the very beginning, Pryor now is in her 27th year of teaching, her 17th at ILCS. She absolutely loves teaching first grade, also having taught many years in middle school (and one in 5th). She has a passion for the Lord, her husband and two exquisite children (an INCREDIBLE adoption story!), her students, photography, running, singing, bringing stories to life, and encouraging others.

Fun Facts:

  • Lived in Germany for three years as a child
  • Loves going to the movies, as well as home renovation projects
  • Married for 27 years
  • Can NOT talk without using her hands
  • Hopes to run 100 half marathons in her lifetime (50 by the age of 50...just two more years to go!)
  • Loves, loves, LOVES Jesus!!

You can e-mail Mrs. Pryor at [email protected] or contact her through ParentSquare.

Lindsay Huber

Lindsay Huber

This is Mrs. Huber’s third year as a teacher. She was a substitute teacher here at Inland Leaders for three years and has been a part of the ILCS family for twelve. She graduated from Grand Canyon University with her Masters in Elementary Education in May of 2020. Prior to switching to the educational field, Mrs. Huber received her Bachelors in nursing from California Baptist University in 2010, where she worked on Labor and Delivery and NICU.

Mrs. Huber lives in Yucaipa with her husband Jake, and their two younger of three kiddos – Caiden (20), Brock (14), and London (12). Mrs. Huber loves baseball (as well as most sports)! She swears she could live on a baseball field and be absolutely content! Mrs. Huber loves to be active and keep herself challenged by setting frequent small and long-term goals.

Mrs. Huber is thrilled to be a part of the first-grade team and cannot wait to experience a fun-filled year full of learning and growing!

You can e-mail Mrs. Huber at [email protected] or contact her through ParentSquare.

Marie Irey

Marie Irey

Marie Irey is in her fifth year of teaching at ILCS. She makes the best baked goods you've ever eaten. In addition to baking, she enjoys CrossFit and spending time with her family and sweet puppy. Her favorite color is blue and her favorite place is the beach.

Originally from Highland, Mrs. Irey now lives in Yucaipa with her husband, Chris, and three sons — Zayne (16), Grayson (13), and Callen (12). She is looking forward to a fantastic year!
